Victoria Bergsman Is Taken By Trees

Taken By Trees, the new project by Victoria Bergsman, former lead singer of The Concretes, kicks off a North American tour with a performance in New York at the end of February.

Victoria Bergsman was a founding member of the Swedish pop group The Concretes and left to pursue a solo career in 2006.  Shortly thereafter, she resurfaced as the featured guest vocalist on the indie smash hit "Young Folks" by Peter Björn and John.  Open Field, her debut album as Taken By Trees, was released in September 2007 and co-produced by Björn Yttling.  The album features percussion, marimba and vibraphone by John Eriksson, as well as guitar by Andreas Söderström and piano arrangements and backing vocals by Verity Susman from Electrelane.

Open Field was deliberately recorded in a fast and spontaneous manner, in just six straight days.  Victoria refused the musicians the chance to get to know the songs too well beforehand in a conscious attempt to keep the recordings alert, full of energy and not overcooked.  The songs were all developed and built around the vocal melody, adding only the instrumentation deemed entirely necessary.  As a result, every song resonates with the stark, delicate beauty of Victoria's unique and beguiling voice.
