HSwMS Carlskrona is the Swedish Navy's largest fighting ship. She is a minelayer and in peacetime primarily used as a platform for the training of officers, cadets and national servicemen in the handling and laying of mines. Mine barriers are part of the Swedish defence system in the event of aggression.

More about HSWMS Carlskrona

During the five months of the year 2005 the Carlskrona will carry out the yearly training cruise. The objective of the cruise is:

• To train the navy´s midshipmen and to provide an experience in international operations. This amounts to extensive onboard training, which over the years has been a successful concept.
• To show Swedish presence in foreign waters, to spread knowledge about Sweden and to create an interest in Sweden, thereby supporting Swedish representation overseas.
• To promote Swedish export industry.

For carrying out her tasks, the ship has a large mine deck, classrooms and equipment for training purposes. Ship´s armaments are 40 and 57 mm guns. The Carlskrona is self-sufficient and has, a modern surgery, including dental surgery.

In the previous years, the crews of HSWMS Carlskrona have been trained in a number of ways to be able to take part in international operations. They have taken part in PFP exercises and other exercises in co-operation with several nations in water adjacent to Sweden as well as on the high seas.
