Swedish jazz pianist Fabian Kallerdahl and his quartet will perform as part of the Nordic Lights Series at Jazz at Lincoln Center on October 16. Kallerdahl is the “Jazz in Sweden” Artist of the Year 2006. He has emerged as a powerhouse of young Swedish jazz, one of the brightest stars of a new generation. Kallerdahl plays a modern acoustic jazz that ranges from driving bebop to muted lyricism, unafraid to flirt with elements of funk and rock. His hand-picked quartet features Per Westling on guitar, Stefan Wingefors on bass and Lars Kjellfeldt on drums. After playing at the opening of The House of Sweden in Washington DC, The Ark bring their sassy glam rock and high-energy antics to Bowery Ballroom on October 25. Also on October 25, Daniel Cirera, the brashly honest and off-the-cuff Swedish songwriter recently signed to Tommy Boy Records, kicks off his first American tour with a debut performance at Joe's Pub.The Swedish indie sensation Love Is All will play live at The Knitting Factory on October 27. Since winning the praise of late UK radio personality John Peel, they have caused a serious buzz on the US indie scene with their jangly post-punk sound and upbeat live show. Swedish pop veterans The Cardigans recently released a new album, Super Extra Gravity, and will play an acoustic set at The Knitting Factory on Halloween, October 31.And on November 1, Sweden's acclaimed electro duo The Knife (siblings Karin and Olof Dreijer) will make their long-awaited U.S. debut with two shows at Webster Hall, featuring a large-scale multi-media stage show created by artist Andreas Nilsson. With a massive fan base but only a handful of live performances to date, they have mesmerized an audience of global proportions with dark electronic soundscapes, hauntingly dramatic songwriting and a penchant for the theatrical. Their latest album, Silent Shout, was released by Mute Records in the U.S.Photo: The Knife
