Electronic Newsletter from House of Sweden

The House of Sweden, the new embassy building and state-of-the-art cultural center in Washington DC, introduces a free monthly newsletter with information about upcoming events and activities.

The House of Sweden will open its doors in the fall of 2006.  Situated in the heart of Washington, on the banks of the Potomac River in Georgetown, it will be a unique home to the Swedish embassy and other representatives of Swedish culture and commerce.

The multifunctional building will house the embassy offices as well as an ultramodern event center with top-notch facilities for exhibits, product launches, conferences and seminars.  Serving many official and cultural functions, the building also features private residencies on the top floors and a shared roof terrace for open-air receptions and events.

Designed by Swedish architects Gert Wingårdh and Tomas Hansen, the strikingly modern building has been enthusiastically received by architectural critics in Washington DC and around the world.  It is constructed primarily of glass and light wood, with transparent and translucent exteriors conveying an immediate sense of light and space.  Its refined simplicity, at once both pragmatic and surprising, is perfectly suited to the property and truly does justice to the magnificent location.
