New Swedish Films at Tribeca Film Festival

The 2006 Tribeca Film Festival will present two new Swedish feature films, directed by Björne Larson and Joachim Hedén, as well as short films by Jonas Odell, Jonas Felixon and Anna Duell.

Both of the feature films are Swedish projects which have been shot and produced in the United States, one in New York, the other in Los Angeles.

New York Waiting is the debut feature of Swedish director Joachim Hedén.  It is a sensitive, sad and oddly suspenseful study of lovesickness and wanderlust, examining the question of whether it is better to let a lost love linger in the mind or be forgotten.  Two stranded strangers meet by chance in New York, one waiting impatiently for the arrival of his estranged girlfriend, the other having just broken up with her cheating boyfriend.  As they wander the streets, it becomes apparent that they have more in common than just sad love stories.

Kill Your Darlings is a Swedish-American co-production, directed by Björne Larson and starring three of Sweden's hottest young actors: Fares Fares, Andreas Wilson and Alexander Skarsgård.  Among the U.S. actors are John Larroquette and Lolita Davidovich.  The film is a darkly comic take on suicidal tendencies and the all-American road trip, in which the path of a struggling screenwriter and a mysterious free spirit intersects with that of a transvestite, a housewife, and a hapless mobster on their way to Las Vegas to see a celebrity psychiatrist.

Never Like the First Time! is a beautifully animated short film, structured by director Jonas Odell as a series of episodes in which four people, in their own words, tell the true stories of the first time they had sex.

Rabbit is a touching short film by Jonas Felixon, in which a nine-year-old boy accidentally injures his neighbor's pet rabbit and tries his hardest to conceal and heal its wounds without anybody noticing.

Holiday is a melancholic yet playfully staged short film by Anna Duell, featuring a young couple at the airport who turn the terminal into an amusement park as arriving and departing flights are announced.
