U.S. Premiere of "Saraband" by Ingmar Bergman at New York Film Festival

The latest feature film by legendary Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman is featured at the 42nd New York Film Festival.

Saraband, the sequel to the internationally acclaimed Scenes from a Marriage from 1973, repeats the award-winning formula of its predecessor and features much of the same cast.

Bergman revisits Marianne (Liv Ullmann) and Johan (Erland Josephson) 30 years after their divorce.  The result is a powerful contemporary drama about the struggle for power, liberation and reconciliation.

Bergman's ability to push scenes beyond civility to explosive feelings of love and hate remains unsurpassed.  This is no old man's sentimental valentine, but a work of vitality and robustness, sublimely poised, directed by one of the grandmasters of cinema.

The 42nd New York Film Festival, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, will run from October 1 through October 17, 2004, at Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and the Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Center.
