The Government of Sweden and the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania have signed an Agreement under which Sweden will provide additional resources amounting to Swedish Kronor 22.6 million (Twenty Two Million Six Hundred Thousand Swedish Kronor) approximately Tshs 3.3 billion on grant basis for continued support to the National Audit Office (NAO) during the period 2004 – 2007. The support is expected to further contribute to capacity building at the National Audit Office and enable the latter to fulfil the requirements of the Public Finance Act 2001 especially in the area of auditing in a computerized environment. The specific purpose of the project is to enhance public accountability and financial discipline. The support also aims at increasing efficiency and transparency in government and at combating corruption.
Furthermore, the Swedish National Audit Office (SNAO) has granted SEK 21.6 million, equivalent to Tshs. 3.2 billion to the National Audit Office under a Specific Memorandum of Understanding regarding Institutional Cooperation between the two National Audit Offices.
The Agreement was signed in the Ministry of Finance on 16th July, 2004 by Ms Ann Stodberg, Charge d’Affaires a.i., on behalf of the Swedish Government and Mr. Peniel M. Lyimo, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance on behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
