Visa for visiting Sweden

Please note: Due to peak season in the Visa Section it is only in emergencies such as relative's serious illness or death that the Embassy can give an earlier appointment date or advance the date of an appointment. Proof/letter from the undertaker or hospital needs to be shown.

In order to visit Sweden you may need an entry visa. An entry visa is a permit required by persons wishing to enter Sweden for a temporary visit, for example:

  • as a tourist
  • on business or to take part in a conference
  • to visit relatives and friends, or
  • when passing through in transit

The issuing of Schengen visas is discretionary and depends on consideration of each individual case, including purpose of visit and intention to return. A Schengen visa is not appropriate if you wish to remain in a Schengen country for longer than three months, to take up employment, to establish a business or to enter a trade or profession.
