When applying for a tourist visa for Sweden, you must submit all of the following documents:
  • Application for Schengen Visa (form #119031), completed, signed and dated.

  • Appendix D: Family Appendix for Applicants (form #201031).

  • National passport or other travel document – valid until at least three months after the end of the trip.

  • 1 passport photo, in color, taken from the front with the face depicted at a straight angle.  Digital files and photocopies of passport pictures will NOT be accepted.

  • Notarized copy of US Alien Registration Card or other valid resident visa (type A, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, O, or R).

  • A current bank statement.

  • Proof of health insurance coverage outside the US (minimum 30,000 Euro).

  • Letter from your employer stating that you are employed and have vacation. If you are self-employed, include a copy of your business license and tax return. If you are a student, include a letter from the school verifying enrollment.

  • A copy of your flight itinerary.

  • A copy of your hotel reservation.

  • If the applicant is a minor, notarized written consent from both parents is required.

  • Application fee as well as shipping and handling fee, in the form of one money order or certified bank check, payable to Consulate General of Sweden or Embassy of Sweden, depending on where you file the application.  Applicants applying at the Consulate General of Sweden in New York may also pay by Visa or MasterCard.

How much does it cost?

In most cases, the non-refundable application fee for a visa to Sweden is $90

For citizens of Moldavia, Montenegro, Russia and Ukraine, the non-refundable application fee is $50.

Citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia are exempt from the application fee as of July 1, 2008.

Children under the age of six are exempt from the fee, as are students and academic researchers visiting Sweden as part of a study program or to conduct scientific research.

Applications must include a shipping and handling fee of $20 for return of passport with next-day delivery service.

The total amount can be paid with one money order.

How do I submit my application?

Applications with all required documents may be delivered in person during visiting hours or mailed directly to the following address:

Consulate General of Sweden
Attn: Visa Section
One Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza
885 Second Avenue, 45th floor
New York, NY 10017

Due to the large number of applications, the Consulate General will NOT be able to confirm receipt of your documents. If you would like acknowledgement that your application has been received, please use registered mail or a delivery service such as FedEx, UPS or DHL that enables you to track packages online.

In some cases, you may be asked to provide additional documentation.

Even with submission of all required documents, there is no guarantee that you will be granted a visa.

NOTE: An entry visa does not automatically entitle the holder to enter the Schengen area.  A decision is made every time the traveler passes through a border control, as travelers must have (1) proof of sufficient funds to support themselves for the duration of their stay and their return, (2) travel medical insurance, and (3) documents indicating the purpose of their visit.
