Earth & Space 2015
Since the new Embassy of Sweden in Washington was inaugurated in October 2006, over 350,000 people have participated in the Embassy's public diplomacy theme programs promoting mutual Swedish - U.S. interests in the areas of politics, culture, trade and research to a large American and international audience.
During 2015, the Embassy of Sweden take a yearlong journey through Earth & Space, an outreach program that will explore;
Outer Space – how can innovations in space become sustainable solutions on earth? What can we learn from space science?
Mental Space – how can we involve a diversity of actors in promoting human rights and transparency globally? Equality and openness will be on the agenda.
Cyber Space – how can we use social media and digital diplomacy to influence difficult issues? What are the latest examples of innovations in this field?
Earth’s Origin – how does our way of living impact the earth – what are the new environmental technical solutions?
Earth’s Resources – how are we using the resources from the earth? What can we learn from, e.g., the mining industry, life science sector and transport industry?
We will move a city and launch a rocket!
Through seminars and exhibitions, we will complement Swedish culture, innovations and technical solutions with a focus on sustainability issues. We will take a look at the Arctic with new eyes. We will also focus on the Northern Region of Sweden and learn more about mining, how to move a city and space travel/ research. Seminars about The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) will be arranged during the year. Experts from the U.S. and Sweden will meet at House of Sweden and other venues throughout the country to discuss trade negotiations, equality, climate issues, digital diplomacy, mutual values and much more. Art, music and other cultural events will highlight the program throughout the year.
A complete spring program of exhibitions, seminars and events during Earth & Space is available on the right.
