GöteborgsOperans Danskompani presents a trio of dances: Beethoven’s 32 Variations , OreloB , and Your Passion is Pure Joy to Me . Created for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani by award-winning choreographer Örjan Andersson, Beethoven’s 32 Variations allows the dancers to explore Beethoven’s music in fresh, poignant ways. OreloB, inspired by the mechanical nature of the rhythms of Ravel’s Boléro , focuses on the dancers as components in a “musical motor” that pulses, unfolds, and grows before us in a crescendo of sound and rhythm.
Nick Cave’s music plays a central part in Your Passion is Pure Joy to Me, in which seven dancers explore the possibility of finding hope and consolation in the wake of despair. In recent years, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani (formerly The Göteborg Ballet) has developed an increasingly contemporary repertoire, focusing on reflecting and developing the art of dance. Comprised of dancers from 16 countries, it is now the largest contemporary dance company in the Nordic region. With a firm foundation in the here-and-now, the dancers inspire legends as well as some of the most interesting of a new generation of choreographers and artists, towards new expressions and art forms.
