Sanctuary by director Fredrik Edfeldt
Following the international success of his debut feature The Girl , director Fredrik Edfeldt returns with this delicate, moving account of the blossoming of a relationship between a father and a daughter. Faced with the prospect of being put into foster care once her father is sentenced to prison, Hella instead goes on the run with him, trying to escape the authorities while creating her own special world. As in his earlier work, Edfeldt gets an extraordinary performance from his young actor, Clara Christiansson: we witness the gradual evolution of her relationship to her father, as well as her own emergence as a young woman.
Director Fredrik Edfeldt studied film theory and mass communication at the Stockholm University as well as filmmaking at Stockholms filmskola. Has worked as a director at Sveriges Television and currently works as a director of commercials at ACNE Film, in Sweden as well as internationally. His short films Barnsäng/In Childbed (2001) and Innesluten/Enclosed (2004) were both nominated for a Best Swedish Short Award at Göteborg Film Festival.
Fredrik’s feature films debut, Flickan/The Girl (2009), opened internationally at the Berlin International Film Festival in February 2009 and received a Special Mention in the Generation 14+ section. The film was also selected as one of ten films in the Variety Critics' Choice program at the 2009 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
Sanctuary will be screened in the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater on March 12 at 6:00 pm.
