Backa Theatre primarily stages productions for children and young people. The theatre started in 1978 as an independent offshoot of Göteborg City Theatre. Over the years, Backa Theatre has produced and achieved success with both newly written and classical works for children, youth and adults. It has been honored with several awards, national as well as international, for the pioneering way of making and performing theatre. The company has also participated in festivals all over Europe and around the world,; in the Middle East, Africa and South America.
Backa Theater tells the tale of Little King Mattias for the first time in the United States during Nordic Cool. When his dad suddenly dies, young Mattias takes the throne and begins to explore the world beyond his palace's golden walls. When he learns that his Cabinet ministers have misled him with lie after lie, they are dismissed and kids are given control. And taking a lead from Mattias, the Backa Teater turns over the reins of the show to the kids in the audience. Based on the international 1923 children's classic with the same name, this Little King Mattias is inventive theater for young audiences that let them in on the fun.
Directed by Mattias Andersson.
