FILM SERIES: Sweden on the Screen - Migration Theme

Continuing the popular film series "Sweden on the screen", this time with the theme migration. The series is part of the Embassy 2017 theme program Safe & Sound.

April 2 - Nice People (Trevligt Folk)

A group of young men who fled the war in Somalia have ended up in a rural town in Sweden where integration is tough. Something needs to be done. Local entrepreneur Patrik Andersson gets an ide: why not use sport as a bridge to bring people together? The goal is to create the first ever Somali national team in bandy, and make it to the World Championship in Siberia. This is a story about racism and fear, but it is also about bravery and doing something that has not been done before.

Follow their story through the documentary "Nice People" by Filip Hammar, Fredrik Wikingsson, Karin af Klintberg and Anders Helgeson.

May 21 - The Girl Who Saved My Life (Flickan som räddade mitt liv)

In August 2014, filmmaker Hogir Hirori leaves his pregnant wife in Sweden to travel to his homeland, Iraqi Kurdistan, to recount the fates that have affected over 1.4 million people fleeing ISIS. Through the people he meets, Hogir also relates some of his own experience with war and seeking refuge, which establishes a solid legitimace for his filmmaking and credible identification with those he records. He is strongly affected by a girl named Souad and the search for her serves as his compass in the chaos of war.
