Swedish foreign minister participated in meeting on the strengthening of the CTBT
The Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt participated on Thursday, 27th of September, along with the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as well as other foreign ministers and high level representatives in an informal meeting in New York. The meeting regarded the entry into force of the CTBT (Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban-Treaty) a universal treaty that bans all nuclear explosions. The treaty were adopted in 1996, but has after more than 15 years not been ratified by all states. On behalf of Sweden and Mexico, as coordinators for the so called Article XIV-process, the Swedish foreign minister made a joint statement, where he emphasized the importance of the continued work to get the remaining states to ratifying and signing the CTBT.
