The High Level Review on UN drug conventions was held in Vienna 13-14 March and a large number of ministers from all over the world took part. Among the participants were H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden, Maria Larson, the Swedish minister for Children and the Elderly and Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN.

The High Level Review is a preparatory step towards the special session of the UN General Assembly on narcotic drugs in 2016. The Swedish delegation was led by Minister Maria Larsson and consisted of a large number of staff from the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and the Permanent Mission to the UN in Vienna.

H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden took part in the meeting, following a special invitation by Yuri Fedotov, executive director of UNODC. H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden made the opening remark to the High Level Review and was Honorary Chair during the minister’s consultations with civil society. H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden has had a long engagement on drug issues, especially concerning drug prevention and the valuable work carried out by civil society in the global fight against narcotic drugs.

Also Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, took part in the High Level Review.
