Welcome to the Swedish Mission to the UN!
We are a dedicated team representing Sweden at the United Nations in New York.
Working here is a special privilege given the unique commitment, support and priority that the United Nations enjoys in Sweden. This special relationship dates back to the tenure of Dag Hammarskjöld as Secretary-General. More than 80,000 Swedes have since served in UN peace missions and we are today one of the largest financial contributors to the UN. With that solid national support, our work also entails responsibility - our people expect that the United Nations deals effectively with the many global challenges of our time.
2015 is a special year for the UN with the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, the International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa, the post 2015 Summit on Sustainable Development in New York, and the Climate Change Conference in Paris. We will work hard in seeking to build bridges and contributing to ambitious and transformative outcomes at these key events. Further efforts aimed at empowering women as well as in the combat against poverty and inequality will be central to our mission.
Sweden wants a representative, transparent and effective Security Council and a peace and security architecture that makes a difference for people in need. We have a holistic perspective to conflict resolution, linking development, diplomacy and security. We promote improved UN efforts in peacebuilding, and look forward to serve as an active Chair of the UN Peacebuilding Commission in 2015.
