The Swedish minister for Higher Education and Research Helene Hellmark Knutsson visits Singapore

International cooperation between higher education institutions and world-class teacher training programmes were the focus as Ms. Hellmark Knutsson visited Singapore on 5-6 October.

Ms. Hellmark Knutsson travelled with a delegation consisting of the Swedish Research Council and representatives of six Swedish higher education institutions; KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm School of Economics, Karolinska Institutet, Linköping University, Lund University and University of Gävle.

During her visit, Ms. Hellmark Knutsson met with the Minister for Education Mr. Ong Ye Kung and discussed teacher training programmes, student exchange, and gender equality related issues.

Ms. Hellmark Knutsson together with the delegation visited the National Institute of Education (NIE) to learn about Singapore's work on teacher recruitment and lifelong learning and the reform efforts behind these programs. The minister and the delegation also met with the Science Council of Singapore and visited National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University (SMU) and Nanyang Technological University where they met with the Swedish President Professor Bertil Andersson. Student mobility, internationalization of higher education and collaboration within research infrastructure were discussed.

Ambassador Håkan Jevrell and Mrs. Catharina Jevrell also hosted a reception for the minister and the delegation at the Swedish Residence. The reception was well attended by representatives from Singaporean universities, Swedish companies and Swedish and Singaporean students and alumni’s.
