On October 10-20 October the Embassy in collaboration with the Swedish Institute (SI) and IKEA presented Swedish photographer Johan Bävman’s photo exhibition ’Swedish Dads’ at the art gallery “the DECK”.

Swedish Dads is a thought provoking photo exhibition featuring a down-to-earth peek into the lives of dads taking extended parental leave. The aim of showing the exhibition was to raise awareness of the role dads can play and encourage debate and discussion on family friendly national policies. A “Singaporean Dads” photo contest was organized in connection to the photo exhibition. The response was huge and out of 840 submitted photos 10 finalists were chosen to be showcased alongside with Mr Bävman’s photos.

The joint photo exhibition ‘Swedish Dads’ and ‘Singaporean Dads’ was inaugurated by Ambassador Håkan Jevrell on the 10th of October. A panel discussion was held in connection to the opening on the topic of ‘Parental Policies and its impact on business and the economy’. The panel included representatives from the Families for Life Council, IKEA, local consulting firm “aAdvantage Consulting”. Ms Anna-Karin Lindblom from the Swedish Ministry for Social Affairs participated and shared the Swedish experience. The discussion was moderated by Mr Augustine Anthuvan from ChannelNews Asia. The discussions were lively and engaging with active audience participation. The winners of the ‘Singaporean Dads’ photo contest was announced during the opening night.
