How to apply

Applying via VFS Global

The quickest and easiest way is to apply for a visa at the Swedish Visa Application Centre, which is run by VFS Global. This means you do not have to visit the Consulate in person.

How you proceed is described step-by-step at the VFS Global website.

Applying on a paper form

If you cannot or do not wish to apply via the Swedish Application Centre, you present your application forms and other documents in person at the Consulate.

OBS: Before submitting your Schengen application, you have to dial the visa hotline in order to make an apponitment,  +86 21 5359 9639 at 15:00-16:00 weekdays. For D-visa and residence permit, there is no need for appointment.

1. Prepare the documentation
Check which documents and personal information you need. You must for instance have arranged for a passport and medical travel insurance and have a flight reservation for showing your travel route and return to China. Please note that the ticket should be bought first after your visa has been issued (no need for original). You must also have an invitation from the person you will be visiting in Sweden.

Read more under ‘Required documents’.

2. Pay the application fee
If you hand in your application at the Consulate you should pay the application fee upon your visit to the Consulate. The Consulate accepts payment by credit card and cash. Read more under ‘Fees’.

3. Visit the Consulate
Bring the completed application form and all the required documents. During the visit, you may be required to answer some additional questions.

All family members who apply at the same time – including children – must visit the Consulate.

You can find the address of the Consulate under ‘Contact’ in the menu on the left.

4. Wait for the decision
When you present your application, you are told when you can collect the decision and your passport. It usually takes 15 days.
