MUSIC: Jenny Lind Concert 2017
The Consulate General of Sweden presents a lunchtime concert of Nordic Music and Opera Arias with Jenny Lind scholarship recipient Ylva Stenberg and pianist Allan Timofeitchik . Free and open to the public.
Opera singer Ylva Stenberg is the winner of the prestigious 2017 Jenny Lind Scholarship, awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and the People's Parks and Community Centers in Stockholm.
Ylva Stenberg was born and raised in Arvika, Sweden. When Ylva was 13 years old, she changed her main interest from the violin to singing. In 2012, Ylva began graduate training in opera at the College for Music Theater and Media in Hannover. Since the fall of 2016, her training evolved into studies at the Hannover Opera’s Opera Studio. Today, she sings in the opera studio's various productions, as well as plays minor roles on the big house opera stage. In Germany, Ylva accumulated experience of all kinds - from major works with orchestra in church halls and opera houses to singing with an electric piano at a retirement home.
Pianist Allan Timofeitchik took his first piano lessons at the Sundsvall Kulturskola (art school), but his musical journey started after his baccalaureate in science. His studies at the college in Härnösand and Vadstena led him to the Malmö Academy of Music. Allan’s concert experience spans solo piano recitals as well as chamber music events. Allan performed Beethoven’s third piano concerto with the Sundsvall Orchestra Association at the critically acclaimed soloist debut in 2014. As an exchange student at the Baratt-Due Musikkinstitutt in Oslo, Norway, Allan combined his science background with music when he became certified as a teacher of Timani, an anatomical and biomechanical approach to music. Since then, he has taught high school students and freelance musicians in this subject, which has received a lot of attention.
