Residence permit card (UT card)
Those who are granted residence permits in Sweden currently receive permit stickers affixed into their passports. Starting from 20 May 2011, stickers will be replaced with a residence permit card (UT card).
All permits granted after 20 May will be issued as residence permit cards. The card will contain biometrics (photo and fingerprints of two fingers) and an electronic signature.
Holders of residence permit stickers do not need to exchange these when UT cards will be introduced. The stickers will be valid until the date of expiry, but not after 20 May 2015.
