Sweden’s Athena Farrokhzad, Malin Persson Giolito, and Karolina Ramqvist are among the poets, authors and writers set to participate in political discussions at the literature festival PEN World Voices, taking place at various locations in New York City on May 1-7.

The week-long festival will use the lens of literature and the arts to confront new challenges to free expression and human rights - issues that have been core to PEN America’s mission since its founding. Athena Farrokhzad, poet, literary critic, translator, playwright, and teacher of creative writing, will participate in discussions about Women and War and Corrosive Power. Feminist writer and former chief of Arena Magazine, Karolina Ramqvist, joins a talk about Girl-Powered Fiction and a reading party called Literary Quest: Westbeth Edition. The lawyer and now full-time author, Malin Giolito Persson, takes part in a dialogue called Forbidden: Too Desirous.
