Regional Development Cooperation
Sweden’s regional development cooperation with Africa is guided by a strategy for the period 2010-2015. The aim is to support regional integration and efforts to manage trans-boundary challenges for peace, economic integration and trade, anti-corruption and environmentally sustainable development in sub-Saharan Africa.
The strategy is implemented through partnerships with African intergovernmental organisations, research institutions as well as multilateral and civil society organisations.
The support incorporates inter alia strengthening of continental and regional capacity for peace and security; integrated trans-boundary water management; trade facilitation and trade policy training; capital markets development; strengthened oversight bodies and accountability for anti-corruptive measures; strengthened research capacity and institutional development of the African Union Commission and of Regional Economic Communities. The Swedish support in 2013 is SEK 640 million (USD 94 million; KES 8,1 billion).
