How to apply

Applying via VFS Global

The quickest and easiest way is to apply for a visa at a Swedish Visa Application Centre, run by VFS Global. This means you do not have to visit the Swedish Embassy in person.

If a representative is collecting your passport after processing he/she should present a power of attorney and identify himself/herself (passport and a copy of the ID page of the passport). The Embassy does not accept a power of attorney issued by organisations or companies on behalf of their employees or partners.

How you proceed in applying for a visa is described step-by-step at the VFS Global website.

Applying at the Embassy

If you cannot or do not wish to apply via the VFS Global, you present your application forms and other documents at the Swedish Embassy. You have to make an appointment, and the processing period may be longer.

How to proceed:

1. Prepare the documentation
Check which documents and personal information you need. You must for instance have arranged for a passport and medical travel insurance and have booked an air ticket (although we advise you to delay payment until your visa has been granted), and you must also have an invitation from the person you will be visiting in Sweden.

Read more under 'Required documents'.

2. Make an appointment
To make an appointment at the Swedish Embassy, you contact the Swedish Visa Centre (VFS Global) hotline (+7 499 703 4976 or +7 499 704 3502). Please note that there will only be a limited number of time slots each day. Appointments can not be made through the Embassy's regular hotline.

The Embassy’s opening hours for the presentation of visa applications is Monday-Friday 09.00-12.00.

3. Pay the application fee
The visa fee is to be paid in cash in rubles at the Embassy at the time of applying.

Read more under ‘Fees’.

4. Visit the Embassy
Bring the completed application form and all the required documents to the Embassy at the appointed time. If you do not have all the documents with you, there is a risk that your application will be rejected.  During the visit, you may be required to answer some additional questions.

You can find the address of the Embassy under ‘Contact’ in the menu on the left.

5. Wait for the decision
When you present your application, you are told when you can collect the decision and your passport. It usually takes 3-5 days.
