If you want to visit Sweden and are a citizen of a country outside the EU, you may need a visa

List of countries whose citizens need a visa to visit Sweden

The Embassy of Sweden in Moscow handles visa applications from citizens of the Russian Federation and citizens of other countries who legally reside in the Russian Federation.

To improve the service available to those applying for a visa, the embassy cooperates with VFS Global. You present your application to VFS Global, and they can also provide you with information and other kinds of service. When the decision has come through, after about 3-5 days, you collect your passport and your visa at VFS Global.

VFS Global charge a service fee per application (over and above the visa fee) for their services and visa applications can be submitted in 19 cities in Russia. Check the VFS Global website for the application centre’s address and opening hours and for other practical information.
If you cannot or do not want to contact VFS Global you can submit your application in person to the Swedish embassy instead. You need to make an appointment. There will only be a limited number of time slots each day and the appointments are booked via the Swedish Visa Centre (VFS Global) hotline +7 499 703 4976 or +7 499 704 3502. Appointments can not be made through the Embassy's regular hotline. A decision on your application will be available after about 3-5 days.

The following categories of applicants, however, SHALL still lodge their visa applications directly at the Embassy:
• Applicants applying for urgent visa (24 h). Note that the applicant must appear in person at the embassy. Urgent visa is issued if the purpose of the trip is very necessary and is based on strong reasons. (For example, funeral). If you are applying for an urgent visa with the invitation from the Swedish company you shall also submit the explanation letter from the inviting company.
• Applicants from an official delegation from federal or regional authorities on a visit to Sweden of official nature
• Applicants applying for a national visa (D visa)
Residents of the Republic of Karelia can apply for a Schengen visa at the Finnish General Consulate in Petrozavodsk.
