Marriages in the Philippines

Legal Capacity to Marry

The Embassy of Sweden, Manila may issue a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage for Swedish nationals intending to get married in the Philippines. The requirement differs depending on the applicant’s situation. The following are the most common type of legal capacity issued by the Embassy:

  • Swedish to Filipino (Filipino is Single, Marriage is Annulled, Widowed)
  • Swedish to Swedish
  • Swedish to other nationality

 

Swedish to Filipino

Swedish:

  1. Marriage License issued by the Swedish Tax Agency
  2. valid Swedish passport
  3. Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)

Filipino:

If single:

  1. Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
  2. valid passport or any two (2) government issued ID with photo, birthdate and address or his/her birth certificate

If previous marriage has been annulled:

  1. original Marriage Certificate with annotation of annulment  issued by the Philippine
    Statistics Authority (PSA)
  2. valid passport or any two (2) government issued ID with photo, birthdate and address or his/her birth certificate

If widowed:

  1. original Death Certificate of deceased spouse issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
  2. original Marriage Certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
  3. valid passport or any two (2) government issued ID with photo, birthdate and address or his/her birth certificate.

 

Swedish to Swedish

  • Both Swedish nationals must provide:
  1. Marriage License from the Swedish Tax Agency
  2. valid Swedish passports
  3. Certificates of No Marriage (CENOMAR) issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)

 

Swedish national to other nationality:

Swedish:

  1. Marriage License issued by the Swedish Tax Agency
  2. valid Swedish passport
  3. Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)

If the other party is of a different nationality:

  1. he/she must present a document from his/her respective Embassy that he/she has the legal capacity to contract marriage
  2. Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR) issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
  3. valid passport

 

If the Swedish national is residing outside of Sweden and intends to get married in the Philippines:

Swedish:

  1. Instead of the Marriage License the Swedish national must present a copy of his/her updated Extract of Population Register where his/her current address is indicated
  2. The Swedish national must also fill up the form HINDERSPROVNING. Both the Swedish national and the fiancé must sign this form in front of the officer at the Embassy.
  3. Certificate of No Marriage issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
  4. valid passport

The Embassy will charge a fee for legal capacity certification.  

Both the Swedish national and the intended spouse must be present.

All required documents must be submitted in original and with 3 months validity
