Swedish artists at Bloomberg New Contemporaries
Swedish artists Amanda Moström and Sofia Caselli will be showcasing two pieces in the exhibition Bloomberg New Contemporaries in Newcastle Upon Tyne .
Bloomberg New Contemporaries is New Contemporaries’ annual nationally touring exhibition offering a compelling snapshot of new work being made by some of the most interesting artists emerging from UK fine art courses. The exhibition will launch at BALTIC, Gateshead and BALTIC’s project space BALTIC 39, Newcastle upon Tyne from 29th September to the 26th November 2017, before touring to artist-led space Block 336, London from January 27th to 3rd March 2018.
Amanda aims to create living and playful works that engage the public, using a visual language of domestic objects, play and the profane. She wants to overcome the reluctance of people to physically interact with an object just because of preconceived notions of reverence towards artworks in the gallery space. Amanda wants to encourage a sense of experimentation and play within spaces, so that relationships with individual works are built on interactions and physical touch. She hopes that this active participation with the work will allow for a more profound experience; involving play, touch and communal participation.
Sofia’s current practice is based upon an interest in physiological processes and the ways in which they are connected to the external rhythms and cycles of the natural world. References to both the human body and the natural world can be found within the work, but at scales so distorted that they no longer resemble recognizable forms. The body as a contained entity is out of sight. Instead the borders of the human and the natural world are both fused and blurred.
