New Ambassador to Afghanistan presents his credentials to H.E. Dr Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan
This week, the new Ambassador of Sweden to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, Tobias Thyberg, presented his credentials to His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
The President expressed his appreciation to Sweden for never having abandoned Afghanistan, having remained a partner in development “even during our darkest hours in the 1990s”.
The discussion evolved around the challenges and possibilities facing Afghanistan and how Sweden can be a partner in building the future of the country. President Ghani and Ambassador Thyberg also discussed the Swedish feminist foreign policy and the need to strengthen women’s rights, not least through economic empowerment.
Ambassador Thyberg served most recently as deputy representative of Sweden to the EU Political and Security Committee in Brussels. He has also served in New Delhi, Moscow and Washington and at the EU Delegation in Tbilisi.
