For stays more than 90 days
If you wish to stay in Sweden for more than 90 days you can either apply for a temporary residence permit for visit or, in certain circumstances, apply for a D-visa. Note that an application for residence permit for visit always is sent to the Swedish Migration Board for decision meaning that it takes longer time to process residence permits than it does to process entry visas.
For information on how to apply for a residence permit please visit Live in Sweden.
D-visa
There is also a possibility to be granted a national visa, a so called D-visa, for stays exceeding 90 days during six months, if special circumstances apply. Special circumstances may for instance be parents who visit their children in Sweden and need to stay for a longer consecutive period. The purpose of the stay can only be to visit. A D-visa may be granted for a maximum stay in Sweden of one year and may be valid for one or multiple entries.
