On December 4 2012,  the informal Gender Policy Coordination group had its first meeting with Ambassador Camilla Mellander and UN Resident Coordinator Pratibha Mehta as co-chairs. The objective of the group is to promote coordination on policy issues related to gender in Vietnam. Members of the group are Ambassadors and Heads of missions of international organisations active in Vietnam. The group will meet regularly and formulate and advocate common positions on prioritized gender issues.

“Although Vietnam has made great progress in many areas concerning gender equality, we still see areas of concern. The sex ratio at birth imbalance is one of great concern. Another huge problem that requires attention is the alarming figures on domestic Violence” says Camilla Mellander. The informal group will strive to constructively engage with relevant ministries and strategic actors in Vietnam to address these issues and devote common attention to solutions.
