Since January 1st 2007, Romania is a member of the European Union
Required travel documents to visit Sweden
As of July 2nd 2007 Sweden accepts the Romanian ID card as a valid travel document. Therefore, as of this date Romanian citizens can enter Sweden based on their national ID cards or their valid passports. Romanian citizens do not need a visa.
Right of residence instead of Residence permit
The right of free movement, residence and permanent residence is granted to citizens of the European Union on Swedish territory.
Residence permit is no longer required for visits to Sweden shorther than 3 months under the following circumstances:
a) carrying out of dependent or independent activities such as employment, studies
b) means of support including medical insurance
c) family reunification with an European Union citizen who comply with the above conditions
