Visa for visiting Sweden

In order to visit Sweden you may need an entry visa.

Citizens from the following countries/territories require a visa when entering Sweden, check the list.

Before applying for a visa to Sweden please note that all documents are required at the same time or else the processing will be delayed. A visa application should in principle be lodged at least 15 calendar days before the intended visit. It can not be lodged earlier than three months before the planned trip.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to take the necessary precautions to respect the deadlines where an appointment system is in place.

An application lodged less than 15 calendar days before the intended departure may be accepted, BUT the applicant should be informed that the processing time may be of up to 15 calendar days. The final decision might be taken after the intended date of departure.

A holder of a multiple-entry visa may apply for a new visa before the expiry of the validity of the visa currently held. However, the validity of the new visa must complement the current visa, i.e. a person cannot hold two Schengen visas valid for the same period in time.

List of supporting documents can be found to the left.

Please note that the Embassy may in individual cases request additional documents during the examination of an application which are not mentioned in the lists, or waive one or more of the requirements.

A visa does not provide automatic permission to enter into the Schengen Area. It is up to the border control authorities to decide on the entry. It is therefore important that you, at the border, can present documents showing, for example, return ticket, insurance, means of support and invitation.

Remember!
Make sure you are properly insured so that you are covered for any costs associated with an illness, accident, etc.
