A week with women in focus
Women's rights and gender equality are high priority topics this week in Amman, when the embassy co-hosts a number of activities, including "She Entrepreneurs", the documentary play SEVEN and a panel discussion on gender equality.
During the week 14-20 October participants of "She Entrepreneurs 2012" are meeting in Amman. She Entrepreneurs is a Swedish Institute program for young female social entrepreneurs in the MENA region. The program focuses on sustainable change through social entrepreneurship and aims at strengthening the network of women change-makers in the region. "One of the main advantages of the program is that the participants contribute to the creation of a new future in their countries where they become role models for other women", Swedish Ambassador Charlotta Sparre said in her opening speech.
The documentary play SEVEN will have its Arab region premiere with performances in Arabic on the 20th of October and in English on October 21. SEVEN is based on interviews with seven women's rights activists around the world and is directed and produced by Hedda Krausz Sjögren in cooperation with Jordanian writer Lana Nasser. The performance is organized by the Swedish Institute in cooperation with the Swedish Embassy in Amman and several Jordanian organizations. The staged readings of the play will be held at the Al Hussein Cultural Centre at 7 PM on both days.
In conjunction with the performance of SEVEN a panel discussion on gender equality will be held. Based on the question "Equality, so when?" seven panelists from various backgrounds will discuss gender equality. Among the participants are the politician Abla Abu Ilbeh, Swedish Ambassador Charlotta Sparre and blogger Fadi Zaghmout. The debate is organized by the Swedish Institute in cooperation with the Swedish Embassy. It will be held at the Al Balad Theatre on October 21 at 11 AM.
