Exemption from Application Fee

Not everyone has to pay an application fee. If the family member in Sweden got his/her permit as a person in need of protection or on the basis of particularly distressing circumstances, the family member's application is received without any fee.

If the decision of the family member in Sweden is classified A3, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, AK, G, P1, P3, P4 or P5 the applicant does not have to pay the application fee. This only applies to spouses, registered domestic partners, or de facto spouses and children under 18 who are applying for a residence permit based on a family connection. The applicant is not exempted from having to pay the fee if the reference person has became a Swedish citizen but has an earlier decision classified according to above.

Note that it is the responsibility of the applicant to present a copy of the referent's decision with the "classification code" (beslutsklass) from the Swedish Migration Board in order to submit the application free of charge.

Exemption from the fee does not apply for alien passport application.
