Resident Permit Requirements

The following documents are required for application of resident permit on grounds of family ties.
  • Two (2) sets of correctly and fully completed Application Forms in English. Make sure to use the correct form (For adult Form no. 161011 and for children under 18 Form no. 163011). Note that the application form should be completed BEFORE handing it in to the embassy.

 

  • Family details for applicants: (Form No. 239011) can be used if the space in the Application Form is not sufficient.

 

  • Your reference person’s decision of permanent residence in Sweden. If the decision were granted in one of the following classes: A3, A7, AK, AC, AF, AM, AS, AT, AV, A5, A6, A8, A9, G, P1, P3, P4 or P5, immediate family members are not required to pay the application fee. (This document is not required if the reference is a Swedish National)

 

  • Original valid passport and identity card (will be returned).

 

  • Two (2) copies of the first two pages of the passport as well as the passport information pages and furthermore two (2) copies of national identity card.

 

  • Two (2) passport photos. The photos must be:
    - full face (facing the camera with the applicants looking straight at the camera),
    - colour with a light (white) background
    - not older than six months and the picture must resemble the applicant,
    - bareheaded, unless you have documented religious objections or medical reasons.
    - hand-touch or otherwise processed pictures will be accepted.

 

  • Two (2) sets of photocopies of the marriage certificate, both in original and in English translation. In case of family ties with husband/wife the marriage must be registered with the proper authorities. It’s is essential that the marriage certificate is authenticated by Ministry of Foreign Affairs if issued in Ethiopia.

 

  • Birth certificate of children applying as well as the parents consent must be presented. Death certificate must be provided if a parent is deceased.

 

  • Proof of identity ("Personbevis") of the reference in Sweden, not older than one (1) month from the date of it’s issuance. The proof of identity should be in the form of a "personbevis för uppehållstillstånd" (Proof of identity for residence permit).

Note: All application forms can be downloaded from www.migrationsverket.se or can  be collected at the embassy free of charge.

Important information:
Applicants are to be submit their applications and be interviewed on the same day and
must therefore present all supporting documents at once:
- Wedding pictures (preferably pictures showing the scene of the wedding reception)
- School documents or credentials (preferably grade 6 or 8 Ministry cards or ESLCE)
- For Somali applicants presenting proof of identity is imperative (passport, national ID, birth certificate or any other identity documents).

Application fees
The applicant must pay the application fee the day the application is submitted. The fee is paid at A bank after the Consular Officer has issued the Embassy's deposit slip with the right amount.

Application fee in connection with family ties
The application fee for adults is 500 SEK in local currency.
The application fee for minors (under 18) is 250 SEK in local currency.

Alien's passport
The application fee for an alien's passport is 750 SEK in local currency. The Swedish Migration Board is able to grant the applicant an alien's passport if the applicant is unable to obtain a passport from his/her country of origin or another document which is valid as a passport.
