About the Section Office in Kigali, Rwanda

Since the genocide of 1994 Swedish engagement in Rwanda has increased substantially. The relations and exchange of visits have multiplied. Sweden is encouraging reconciliation efforts and the development cooperation with Rwanda is focused on poverty reduction, sustainble economic development, democratic governance and human rights.

At the Swedish office in Kigali there are five sent out staff from Sida that works daily with the Swedish Cooperation with Rwanda. The office also consists of eight locally employed staff, including programme officers and administrative staff. One Political Affairs Officer from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is also based in Kigali at the Swedish office.

Visa Applications

Visa applications for Sweden are processed by the Belgian Embassy in Kigali, in line with an official agreement between Belgium and Sweden.

Register at the Swedish Office for Development Cooperation in Kigali

Swedish citizens living in Rwanda or visiting the country for more than one month are welcome to visit the Swedish Office for Development Cooperation to register their stay in Rwanda.

The Section Office's visiting hours:
Monday – Thursday: 08.00 - 17.00 hrs
Friday: 08.00 - 14.00 hrs

The registration of Swedish citizens is used in case of emergency matters. When registred, please, remember to deregister with the office when permanently leaving Rwanda.
