Regional peace and security cooperation

In addition to various tripartite initatives together with South Africa, Sweden supports five institutions based in South Africa that are working for peace and security on the African continent.
  • The Institute for Security Studies, ISS, is a leading institute for human security analysis and research in Africa. It runs programmes in areas such as African Security Analysis and Arms Management with support from Sweden. Read more on

  • The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes, ACCORD, has assisted in peace and mediation efforts in African countries such as Burundi and the Congo, as well as Palestine. It has trained over 14,000 security personnel, diplomats and civil society representatives in Africa.

  • The Centre for Conflict Resolution, CCR, works with training, capacity building, policy development and research in conflict resolution and the African peace and security architecture.
