Launch for the Climate and Environment Promotion seminars 4-6 June

The eighth seminar within the framework of the Consulate General’s project for Turkish municipalities “European Value Systems and European Cooperative Structures” will take place in Istanbul 4-6 June. The seminar also marks the launch of a series of seven climate and environmental conferences that will take place during the Swedish EU term presidency in the fall of 2009.

The series is organized by the Swedish Embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul in cooperation with seven Turkish municipalities.

Modern Turkish Literature – academic summer school 8-26 June

”Modern Turkish Literature” is the title of this year’s summer school co-arranged by the Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul and the University of Stockholm. 70 students applied for the course which can accomodate 27 students.

The programme is organized in cooperation with Bilgi University and will include prominent Turkish scholars and critics. This will be the fourth annual summer course supported by the Consulate General in Istanbul.

23 June 19.00 Professor Bernt Brendemoen, Oslo University “Orhan Pamuk and the material world. The author’s use of objects in his novels.”

30 June 19.00 Dr Feryal Tansug, Bahcesehir University, Istanbul. “ Greek-Turkish communal Relatons during the Late Ottoman Period:the Case of Izmir (Smyrna).” I forskningsinstitutets temaserie om  Amnesia, remembrance and identity formation in republican Turkey.

Swedish Institute – new application period 15 June – 22 September

The Swedish Institute accepts applications regarding projects undertaken in ODA (Official Development Assistance) countries between 15 June and 22 September. The application form will become available on this page on June 15.

Meeting for scholarship holders and alumnae 25 June

The Consulate General in Istanbul, in cooperation with the Swedish Institute, arranges two student meetings on June 25. The first one is for new of scholarships for  Masters studies in Sweden and the other one is for members of the alumni association.

The alumni association currently consists of 50 members.

Turkish filmmakers shoot documentary on Ingmar Bergman

The two young filmmakers Hakki Kurtulus and Melik Saracoglu are spending June in Stockholm and Gotland to gather material for their a documentary “Nocturnal Confessions in Ingmar Bergman´s Cinema.
