The Section for Human Rights
The Section for Human Rights represents and defends Swedish interests in the international organizations represented in Geneva. The work for human rights is integrated into all areas of the Swedish foreign policy, however, the Section in Geneva focuses on the government's eight priorities for human rights affairs: democracy-building, strengthening the freedom of expression, abolition of the death penalty, combating torture, combating summary executions and arbitrary detentions, protecting the principles of the rule of law, protection of international humanitarian law and the fight against discrimination. This work is done primarily through the multilateral negotiating forums, but also through bilateral contacts with states and civil society.
