Co-applicant to a student

You may, if you meet the requirements, be granted a residence permit for the same period as your family member. You may not, however, work during that permit period

How to apply
If a family member would like to apply as a co-applicant, he/she can either apply electronically at the same time as you or, if not applying at the same time as you, contact the Consulate to book an appointment for handing in an offline application.

To book an appointment for handing in an offline application as a co-applicant to a student you can either contact us via phone weekdays between 15.00-16.00 on 021-5359 9639 or via email: generalkonsulat-visum@foreign.ministry.se. The Consulate will forward your application to the Swedish Migration Board and as soon as a decision is ready a residence permit card will automatically be ordered.

You are required to enclose the following documents with your application (note that all documents must be submitted in original):

If your husband/wife/partner is in Sweden:

• Two fully completed and signed application forms.
  
  
• Two passport photos taken within the past six months. Photos that do not conform to these standards will be rejected and may cause delay in processing the application.
  
  
• A valid passport and two photocopies of the identity page of the passport. We only accept passports which have been signed by the holder of the passport. Please note that even if you are not yet a holder of a valid passport it is possible to apply for a residence permit. You can forward your passport to the Embassy later.
  
  
• Notary Certificate of marriage (Chinese and English version) and a copy of the certificate, or two copies of a Swedish marriage certificate (vigselbevis) if you were married in Sweden. If you are not married, you are required to enclose a Notary Certificate stating that you are single (Chinese and English version) in two copies.
  
  
• Two photocopies of the identity page of your husband's/wife's/partner's passport.
  
  
• Two copies of your husband's/wife's/partner's Civil Registration Certificate, "personbevis".
  
  
• Information about financial guarantee. You should be able to show that you have approximately 3500 SEK per month in Sweden.
  
  
• Letter of introduction from your current employer in China. This should state if you have been granted leave for the time you will be in Sweden, and it should be signed and have the telephone number of the person who signed it.
  
  
• You are required to pay an application fee.
  

For children (under 18 years old) with one or both parents in Sweden, or children accompanying a parent to Sweden:

• Two fully completed and signed application forms. The application should be signed by the person who has the legal custody of the child.
  
  
• Two passport photos taken within the past six months
  -Photos that do not conform to these standards will be rejected and may cause delay in processing the application. For more information please see link regarding photo guidelines to the right.
  
  
• A valid passport and two photocopies of the identity page of the passport. Please note that even if you are not yet a holder of a valid passport it is possible to apply for residence permit. You can forward your passport to the Embassy later.
  
  
• Notary Certificate stating the relationship of the child/parents.
  
  
• Notary Certificate stating who has the legal custody of the child and in case only one of the parents has the right of access to the child.
  
  
• Two photocopies of the identity page of the passport of the parent/s.
  
  
• Two copies of the Civil Registration Certificate, "personbevis", of the parent/s, if they live in Sweden.
  
  
• If one of the child's parents will stay in China, a letter from him/her is requested stating that he/she is aware of the child's application for residence permit and that he/she agrees that the child goes to Sweden.
  
  
• Letter of invitation from the parent in Sweden.
  
  
• Financial guarantee. (Should be at least 2100 SEK per month in Sweden.)
  
  
• Letter of introduction from the school in China. This should state if the school has granted leave for the time the child will be in Sweden, and must be signed and have the telephone number of the person who signed it.
  
  
• You are required to pay an application fee.
  

If you fail to supply the necessary documents mentioned above, the decision-making process of your case may be delayed. The Consulate General may call you for additional documents or information if necessary.
