General information about visa applications

A visa is a temporary permit to entry and stay in Sweden during a short period of time. Citizens of Ukraine require a visa when entering Sweden. Citizens from the following countries/territories require a visa when entering Sweden, check the list.

Sweden take part in the so called Schengen cooperation and therefore issues uniform Schengen visas. A Schengen visa may be issued for maximum 90 days per half a year during the validity of the visa. A Schengen visa is valid for entry to and stay in the Schengen territory in accordance with the information written at the visa. If you, when you submit your application, already know that you will stay in Sweden more than 90 days you should apply for a residence permit for visit. Please note that the Embassy in some cases may request additional documents to be able to process your application. We also advice you to read the information on this homepage before every application as the Embassy regularly update the information.

The processing of a visa takes up to 10 calendar days, starting from the day when a complete application is received. A complete application includes the application form and all supporting documents that are to be appended. Processing time may be extended up to 30 days when further inquiry is needed.

Due to the amount of applications the Embassy has limited possibilities to process applications urgently. If possible due to the work load, the Embassy may process an application within three working days from the day when the complete application is received. The Embassy may in some cases, for example if the Embassy is uncertain about the decision , send the application to the Swedish Migration board for processing and decision. The processing time will in these cases mostly be more than 10 calender days.

Conditions for entry
Please be informed that a visa does not give the holder an absolute right to entry the Schengen territory, but is only one of the conditions that must be fulfilled for entry. To read about the conditions click here.
