General:+ Do any documents have to be sent to the Embassy separately?- No, all documents are to be submitted along with the application.
+ Is the applicant required to present money at the Embassy?- The applicant must show proof that he/she can support him/herself during the stay in Sweden. This is done by presenting bank statements and work certificates. If the inviting part wants to pay for the applicants expenses this should be clear from the invitation. + Is it possible to send a Schengen Visa application to the Embassy by post? - No.
+ I live far from the Embassy. Which are the alternatives for submitting in an application in person? - Another person may submit and collect the application and passport on the condition that he/she has a power of attorney. Upon collecting the passport, a copy of the passport should be presented. Another alternative is to apply through a tourist agency. For reasons of freedom of competition the Embassy can not recommend a specific agency. This applies to Russian citizens only.
+ How long is the handling time?- A decision on a visa application is normally taken within 10 calendar days. Russian citizens may apply for an urgent visa (which takes three days to handle) by paying double the normal application fee.
+ Do I have to make an appointment before submitting my application?- No.
+ Must the Application form for Schengen Visa be filled in by hand?- No, it might be filled in on a computer as well, although it has to be signed by hand.
+ Is it possible to travel through another Schengen country before going to Sweden?- Yes. However, the application should be submitted to the country which is the subject for the longest period of stay. If this is unclear before the start of the trip the visa should be applied for from the country where the first border crossing will take place.
+ Can I be informed about the outcome of my application by e-mail/SMS? - This service is not yet available.
Visa for visiting friends and/or relatives:+ Is it necessary to submit Appendix E (Invitation) and birth certificate in original? - No, a copy sent by the applicant by fax or email is sufficient.
+ Does the birth certificate of the referent (the person inviting) have to be signed by an official at the Swedish Tax Agency? - No.
+ Do children need to have separate invitations from the referent (the person inviting)? - Yes.
Residence permit+ When should I come to the Embassy in order to have the residence permit placed in my passport? - You may come to the Embassy at our usual opening hours as soon as a positive decision has been taken by the Swedish Migration Board. If the passport is handed in in the morning (9-12) it may be collected in the afternoon (16-17) the same day.
