“European value systems and cooperative structures” seminar in Izmit, 5-7 March
“European Value Systems and European Cooperative Structures”, a two year educational project supported by the Consulate General, is organizing its seventh seminar in Izmit, 5-7 March. Approximately 30 senior municipal officials from the three regional municipal associations and twelve municipalities in different parts of Turkey participate at this training, which aims at capacity building for future EU membership. Among others, the district director Jan Johansson will introduce the organization of the municipality of Skärholmen.
“City and Art” Forum, 6-8 March
The forum "City and Art”, to be held at Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul, 6-8 March, is a collaboration between art and design programmes at university level in Istanbul, Mersin, Malmö, Vienna and London. The aim is, among others, to discuss art education's future role in the shaping of public space. The forum, which is open to the public, includes discussions, workshops, presentations, excursions, etc. Students from Istanbul, Mersin and Malmö will work on joint projects, which will be exhibited in the historical canon foundry Tophane al-Amir in Istanbul, October 15-November 15. The project is financed by EU funds and supported by, among others, the Consulate General.

“Bergman and Women” in Ankara 5-12 March
After having been screened at the Pera Museum in Istanbul in February, the nine Bergman films and Ove Wallin’s photo exhibition, will continue to Ankara. The films will be screened at Kizilirmak on 5-12 March. Ove Wallin will attend the opening in Ankara.
Film director Yeşim Ustaoğlu at the Swedish Research Institute, 24 March
The award-winning film director Yeşim Ustaoğlu’s film “Bulutları beklerken” (Waiting for the clouds) will be shown at Research Institute’s lecture series on “Amnesia, remembrance and identity formation in post-Ottoman and Turkic societies: Republican Turkey and its minorities”. The film will be followed by a discussion with the director. Tuesday 24 March, the film starts at 17.00 and the discussion begins at 19.00.
Black/North SEAS to Istanbul 21-30 March
Intercult’s project Black/North SEAS is visiting Istanbul 21-30 March. Black/North SEAS is designed to reinforce transparency and a democratic culture and community in enriching the public domain by site-specific art and art installations in collaboration with local partners. 14 co-productions have been selected by Chris Torch, artistic director of Intercult, together with a number of European partners. The result is a travelling festival with a wide and varied program. All works are examples of how culture can contribute to the restructuring of urban areas.
Black/North SEAS was launched in May 2008 in Odessa, Ukraine, and has since continued along the Black Sea coast on tour, through Varna/Balchik in Bulgaria, Mangalia in Romania and will reach the final station Istanbul 17-30 March.
The host is Istanbul 2010 - European Capital of Culture - and partners include the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV), Santralistanbul, Tütün Deposu, Anadolu Kültür, and the theater Garajistanbul. The project is mainly funded by the EU Culture 2007-2013 and has also received grants from the Swedish Institute. The Consulate General contributes to the Cityscape conference on art and the urban environment, at Santralistanbul, the Bilgi University’s campus for art and design on 27-28 March.
