General information
Through this programme Sweden is contributing a total of 43 milion SEK over a period of four years from 2006 to 2010, to a multi donor programme, to be managed by UNICEF, assisting orphans and other vulnerable children (OVCs) in Zimbabwe, many of which are victims of the HIV/AIDS in the country. The purpose ot this programme is to increase access by orphans and other vulnerable children in Zimbabwe to basic social services and improve their protection from all forms of abuse. The programme will contribute to the overall goal which is to improve the quality of life of all orphans and other vulnerable children in Zimbabwe. A total of SEK 23 000 000 has been disbursed to date. In order implement this programme UNICEF is working in partnership with 26 organisattions. The number of direct beneficiaries in 2007 was 147 012. 87 725 OVCs received school related assistance, 14 964 OVCs recived medical support, 75 006 OVCs where provided with psychosocial support, 33 867 OVCs attended life skills training, 1 186 received legal assistance, 731 households with OVCs benefited from new sanitation facilities that were constructed, 15 child headed households where provided with shelter, 315 children with HIV/AIDS received HART, 5 190 OVCs obtained birth certificates. A total of USD 10 milion was spent on the programme in 2007 out of a targeted SEK 12 000 000. A monitoring and evaluation frame work consisting of 60 indicators was developed and piloted by partners in the second half of the year. Sida, DfiD, New Zealand Aid, the EC and the German Government are co-financing the programme of support.
