Main objective:
The project is based on three programme focus areas: freedom of expression and access to information campaign, campaign for broadcasting diversity and ICTs and lastly media support.
Results:
MISA has engaged with the Ministry of Media, Information and Publicity to discuss alternative media policies and lobby for freedom of expression and access to information. In addition, MISA held a workshop in July 2009 to build the capacity of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Media Information and Technology and to raise the committees awareness of key media issues.MISA has been very active in terms of campaigning for broadcasting diversity. As part of the Media Alliance of Zimbabwe, MISA has contributed to the development of a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation Bill (ZBC Bill) an alternative legislation that seeks to challenge the monopoly of the state broadcaster. MISA has been very active in terms of advocating for community radios in Zimbabwe as part of the broadcasting diversity campaign. To date MISA has helped build the capacity and raise awareness of community radio stations through 12 activities throughout the country. As part of its media support initiative, MISA has established a Resource Centre which has become a point of communications training and research centre for journalists and ordinary people. An average of 15 people visit the centre during weekdays and use facilities like internet, computers and printing and satellite television.
