Results

During 2007, CPIA managed to bring political parties together to discuss governance issues, resulting in an all inclusive member committee that has been of importance in the negotiations between ZANU PF and the MDC. CPIA also held a meeting on the draft constitution that was rejected in 2000, resulting in the Kariba Communiqué that later received acceptance by the SADC Mediation Team as the basis for the negotiations.

CPIA has continued to engage church leaders in the process of national reconciliation. The outcome of the meetings is that the two groups of church leaders have pledged to work together, an achievement in itself. Recommendations from the meetings include the establishment of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission suitable for the Zimbabwe situation. However, any concrete steps towards such an initiative have not been taken so far. CPIA is also targeting youth in various activities in an effort to foster a culture of peace. The netball and soccer competitions has seen youth from various ethnic and political backgrounds sharing experiences and making friends. CPIA also organised a “2nd Regional Youth Training on Conflict, Peace and Development” bringing together youth from all over Zimbabwe as well as neighbouring countries. The training increased the participant’s knowledge of conflict, peace and development , as well as enhanced networks among them.
