General information
In the area of Urban development Sida has commissioned a study that has guided it in coming up with an urban strategy. The interim urban poverty strategy articulates the Embassy’s position, key focus areas and approaches to urban poverty issues and provides guidance for operational implementation in the short medium and long term. Discussions on possibilities of future support have been under way with Dialogue on Shelter, Swedish Cooperative Centre (SCC) and Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe (UCAZ). UN-HABITAT which is being supported by Sida has managed to provide a platform for Zimbabwean stakeholders to contribute and participates in urban programmes through conferences and meetings. UN-HABITAT has also managed to provide the much needed link between civil society actors local government and some sections of central government. Through its identified partners UN-HABITAT is now in a position to facilitate large scale project implementation in local governance and human settlements. Most stakeholders are now aware of UN-HABITAT’s role of “supporting and facilitating”.
