Mr President, Allow me to extend the gratitude of Sweden to the Saudi Arabian delegation and His Excellency Dr Zaid Al-Hussain for taking an active part in our dialogue here today. In order to respect the time constraints, I will move straight to our recommendations:First; We are concemed about the situation of mi grant women who come to Saudi Arabia to serve as domestic workers, especially when reports include complaints of physical abuse and discrimination.' We recommend that the government strengthens its' efforts to secure that these violations are acted upon and take steps necessary to ensure the full enjoyment of human rights of all women in Saudi Arabia. Second; The right to seek legal remedy is a crucial element to end impunity for human rights violations. We note that you mention this in your national report (§ 1 O). We also note that the National Human Rights Commission has a mandate to receive and investigate complaints. Nevertheless, there are reports on situations where individuals have not been guaranteed this right. We therefore recommend the govemment ofSaudi Arabia to increase its' efforts, in order to effectively combat impunity. Third, In resolution 62/149 from 2007 and resolution 63/168 from December 2008, the General Assembly called upon states to establish a moratorium on executions, with a view to abolish the death penalty. We would recommend the govemment of Saudi Arabia to take all measures necessary and, as a first step, introduce a moratorium with a view to abolish the death penalty and adhere to the resolutions of the General Assembly in this regard. Thank you, Mr President.
