Residence permits for visiting researchers

Visiting researchers who will work in Sweden for a period exceeding three months must have a residence permit. In order to be included in the ‘visiting researchers category’ a person must have a university or college education.

In order to be granted a residence permit as a visiting researcher in Sweden you must show that you have a hosting agreement with an approved research organisation (the research organisation must be ap-
proved by the Swedish National Agency for Higher Education).
A hosting agreement shows that the visiting researcher has undertaken to conduct a research assignment and that the research organisation hosts the visiting researcher.

Note!  All documents should be submitted in two copies.

Documents required:

  • Hosting agreement (English or Swedish), signed by both parties

  • Passport or other travel document and a copy of its identification page
  • Copies of all marked pages of citizen/internal passport (for Russian citizens)
  • Three [3] recently taken (not older than 6-months) colour photographs (35 x 45 mm) for all applicants, including minors.
    The photograph must be:
    – of natural colouring, taken against a plane, white background

    – no tinted lenses and no flash reflections on the glasses, avoid red eye effect
